HAT ISLAND RESIDENCE
The owners of this new vacation home were seeking a weekend getaway where
they could spend their days kite surfing and relaxing at the beach. The home
was designed for minimal maintenance and sustainable and durable materials
were selected to handle the significant weather exposure. The house was
elevated on concrete piers to allow any storm surge and driftwood to flow
beneath and to keep the living area above possible flood waters. The
interior layout is informal, to emphasize the relaxed nature of the home,
and wide sliding glass doors facilitate easy access to the exterior deck for
enjoying the sunshine and views.
